Bing is a well established and highly renowned online search provider and Bing Maps is not an exception to it. This free online service allows you to browse the world map in a highly convenient manner for finding places and routes. In other words it is a nice alternative to Google Maps. It also allows you to find free directions online.

Suppose you are planning an inter-state journey via road and not well aware about the route to your destination? In such cases Bing Maps service will come handy in finding a nice route. The best part is that you will also be provided with a brief description about the turns & cuts that are to be taken on the way.

Getting started with Bing Maps is easy and login is not mandatory. You can begin with a visit to Bing maps page. Have a look on the screenshot placed below:Bing-Maps-free-directions-online

There you will be presented a map in center section, a search box on the top left section, and on the panel to the left exists the links stating ‘Get directions’, ‘View traffic’, ‘Search for Restaurants’ and ‘Explore venue maps’.

Find Free Directions Online Using Bing Maps:

For finding free directions with Bing maps you will need to:

  • Click on ‘get directions’ link after which the interface in the left section will change. Bing-Maps-find-directions-online
  • On the top you will find two icons; one of a car and other of a pedestrian. In case you want to find driving path then select  the car and for finding the walking path you must select the human figurine.
  • Then in the textbox ‘A’ you need to enter the name of the place from where to begin the journey. In the textbox ‘B’ you will require to enter the name of the destination. The thing that I really like about Bing maps is that it delivers you the option to have multiple destinations  i.e. you can have destination ‘C’ and ‘D’ as well. For that, a click on ‘Add destination’ link will be sufficient and soon a new  text-box with preceding letter will be  included.
  • On a click on ‘show options’ link you will be presented checkboxes for entering your preferences.
  • Then click on the ‘Go’ button and the Path will be traced for you. Bing-Maps-directions-for-free

Now, zoom to gather more details about the places in between. The map can be viewed in road, traffic and bird’s eye view.

* It is recommended that you spend some time reading  the information displayed in the left panel. You might require scrolling deep down.

The Final Verdict:

Bing Maps is definitely one of the coolest ways to find free directions online. Do not forget to try it before getting out on a trip.  Daft Logic Distance Calculator is another cool tool that you can try.
